They Should Just Stop Drinking Alcohol

How much better could our lives be if they would just quit chasing after the booze? When the stop drinking that’s when we will get happier, right? Do you really feel this way? I challenge you on this next point, “happiness is an inside job.”

You see no one is responsible for our happiness other than ourselves.

I cannot make you happy and neither can the alcoholic in your life. It’s all about our perspectives in life. When we focus on good things, then we have a tendency to feel better about life.

Your friend, co-worker, spouse or relative is not going to change what they are doing because they are addicted to alcohol. So, the responsibility is in your court to make some changes to be happier. Let’s face it, nothing we have done has caused them to stop and nothing will except….when they decide to ask for help.

Try a few of these things in the meantime:

Stop focusing on everything they are doing all of the time and get a life of your own. Do things that you enjoy that will make you feel better about life.

Get involved in a few support group meetings for friends and family members of alcoholics.

Start exercising regularly, especially when they make you mad.

Forgiving the alcoholic of past hurts is an extremely powerful way to feel better about yourself.

Refuse to argue with the problem drinker.

Treat yourself to something nice. It doesn’t need to be expensive.

Take a long hot bath.

If I could tell you how to get them to stop drinking I would. They “fact” is that nothing that we do will make the just quit. They are going to have to hit bottom on their own. Nothing that we have tried up until now has caused them to give up the bottle. So, consider doing some things that will make your life much better and “let go” of the alcoholic in your life.
